DOMAINE PICHAT

DOMAINE PICHAT

The story

The Pichat family perpetuates a long-standing tradition: the grapes, pears, and radishes on our coat of arms symbolize the original produce meticulously cultivated by our forebears. This heritage inspires us to honor the land and continually pursue perfection in the grape and its transformation into fine wine.

In 2000, Domaine Pichat produced its very first vintage, with just 900 bottles. Today, the vineyard spans 7 hectares and produces 30,000 bottles annually. These exceptional wines reflect the richness of the Rhône Valley terroirs, notably three emblematic Côte Rôtie crus: Champon’s, Löss, and Les Grandes Places.

The vineyard

The Estate cultivates 7 hectares of vines, mainly within the Côte-Rôtie appellation.

Our vineyards flourish primarily in “Champon” and “Grandes Places”, but also extend to “Cognet”, “Le Plomb”, “Fongeant”, “La Gerine”, and “Côte Rozier”.

Our Condrieu thrives at “La Caille”. Syrah and Viognier, crafted as Vin de Pays, are grown in the “Champon” area in Ampuis, and most recently, in “Charmilles” in Vienne.

Guided by our convictions and deep respect for the terroir, we adapt our methods to the unique needs of each plot. We carefully consider the slope, exposure, soil, and vintage-specific weather conditions to perfect the quality of our grapes. While cellar expertise is essential to the character of each wine, the quality of the fruit itself remains the foundation of a great vintage.

This is why we are committed to producing the healthiest grapes possible, harvested at peak ripeness each year. Every task in the vineyard, from cultivation to treatments, is carried out sustainably, with the utmost respect for both the terroir and the environment.

The cellar

Our harvests are carried out entirely by hand and collected in 25-kg bins, preserving the integrity of the fruit and allowing careful sorting if required. The grapes are then swiftly transported to the cellar for vinification.

Today, the estate benefits from a thermo-regulated stainless-steel vat room, ensuring precise temperature control—essential for respecting our oenological vision while guaranteeing optimal hygiene. This cellar, dedicated to winemaking, is equipped for a wide range of techniques: whole-cluster or destemmed fermentations, cold pre-fermentation, pumping over with oxygen, punching down, extended macerations, and more. The aim is to preserve a broad technical palette, enabling us to reveal the full potential of each grape variety and each vintage.

Once vinification and maceration are complete, our wines are aged for 10 to 42 months in 400-liter barrels.

Our Côte-Rôtie wines are matured exclusively in barrels, with the choice of cooperage and barrel age reviewed each year to match the character of each cuvée and vintage.

Still, our aging practices follow a consistent philosophy:

  • Champon’s: aged with 30–40% new barrels, using 30–100% whole clusters.

  • Les Grandes Places: aged entirely in new barrels, with 100% whole clusters.

  • Löss (100% destemmed), along with our IGP Syrah and Viognier, are matured in one- to two-year-old barrels.

  • Condrieu: aged with around 30% new barrels.

Our goal remains the same: to respect and magnify each wine’s individuality by adapting the aging process to its unique expression.

Fine Côte-Rôtie:
the soul of our land

The fruit of our know-how and our passion for Côte-Rôtie, this eau-de-vie is made from carefully selected grape marc, then distilled with precision in our traditional stills.

It reveals an intense nose of black cherry, blackberry and plum, enhanced by touches of vanilla, cinnamon and cocoa. On the palate, its silky texture and subtle balance of fruit and spices offer a long and elegant finish.

To be enjoyed neat or in a cocktail, Fine de Côte-Rôtie is a refined expression of our terroir, crafted with patience and passion.
